DESCRIPTION

A Rolex Submariner Date ref. 1680 from circa 1979 is one of the last examples of this iconic reference before it was replaced by the newer Ref. 16800. This model is highly collectible and wearable! With a durable automatic self-winding (when worn) movement, easy to read date feature, and water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet), make this a great daily wear watch. It is iconic, handsome and has a fabulous dial with tritium painted markers that have turned to an even cream color. It is retro cool!

SPECIFICATIONS:

Typical characteristics of a 1979 example include:

• Reference: 1680
• Production period: Approximately 1969–1979/80, with 1979 representing the final production years. 
• Dial: Matte black "White Submariner" dial (the earlier red "Submariner" text had already been discontinued).
• Movement: Rolex Caliber 1575 automatic (often referred to as the 1570 family).
• Crystal: Acrylic "Top Hat" crystal with Cyclops magnifier.
• Case: 40 mm stainless steel.
• Water resistance: Originally rated to 200 m (660 ft).
• Bracelet: Commonly fitted with a Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 or 560 end links, as this specimen does. 

COLLECTORS INFORMATION: 

This genuine 1979 Ref 1680 watch has these correct features: 

• A matte tritium dial (not glossy).
• Acrylic crystal rather than sapphire.
• Bidirectional bezel (the succeeding 16800 introduced the unidirectional bezel and sapphire crystal).
• A serial number in the approximately 5.9–6.2 million range, although there is overlap
