Circa 1968
Very Good to Excellent Condition. Comes with Rolex box (not original to set). No papers.
This is a great collectible Rolex sport watch that is still affordable. And it will make a great daily wear watch too. With a Rolex 1520 automatic self-winding (when worn) and sweeping sub seconds hand movement, you won't long for anything else. Especially when it looks this good and is water safe up to 200 meters / 660 feet! Speaking of which, this has a meters first dial (200m * 600ft). The dial on this watch is fantastic! The markers (bezel dot and hands) have a deep creamy patina, giving it tons of character.
It has a stainless-steel case which measures 40mm. The black aluminum bezel insert is a Rolex replacement insert and is in very nice condition with some light marks from normal wear. The marks seen on the crystal in the pictures, can easily be polished out or replaced.
I am pretty sure this watch has been polished, but it certainly hasn't been over polished as the lugs look nice and thick. As you can see from the picture, the crystal does have some scratches. But they are magnified in my pictures which are taken with a Leica camera on a macro setting. In the flesh, they really are not as noticeable. Many collectors don't like anything to be polished, and believe these marks give character to the age of the watch. So, I have chosen not to do anything and present the watch in the same condition as it was given to me.
The stainless-steel bracelet is probably not original but now has a period correct Jubilee style bracelet that is in very good condition. it does have some stretch but not bad for a watch of this age. This would make a great birth year watch, or a collectible timepiece for the watch collector that has always wanted a vintage Rolex. Of course, it would be a great daily wear timepiece too!
